According to a report by the South African Journal of Psychiatry, it is estimated that one in every 162 children born in South Africa has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However, many children with ASD in South Africa remain undiagnosed due to a lack of awareness and resources. According to the non-profit organization Autism South Africa, many individuals with ASD in the country are never diagnosed.

Intervention services can be life-changing for individuals with ASD. A qualified practitioner, such as those at The Indigo Initiative can work with individuals with ASD to help them develop important skills, such as communication, social interaction, sensory support and adaptive behaviour.
By working with one of our qualified practitioners, individuals with ASD can improve their ability to function in their daily lives, communicate their needs and emotions, and develop greater independence. We also provide parents and caregivers with the tools and strategies they need to best support their loved ones with ASD

With almost a decade of experience, specialising in the field of ASD and related disorders we have come to understand that not every child is the same. Each one of our children yield their own skills, strengths and challenges. As a result, we tailor a program specific to your child's needs, using a combination of tried and tested techniques from over the years. We recognise the importance of team work when it comes to progress, therefore we include all the relevant people to ensure the best outcomes for our children. COMBINATION APPROACH
We offer an inclusive learning environment for children and young adults with ASD and related disorders. We provide communication and social interaction support, sensory integration support, curriculum support and positive behaviour tools and resources.
We believe that all children have the right to effective and individually tailored intervention that facilitate their learning needs. We provide 1:1, small group or online intervention to meet your child's specific needs.
SERVICES
- 1:1 In Home Sessions OR Online Sessions
Sessions are delivered in the comfort of your own home. This allows your child to feel at ease in a familiar environment where they are able to thrive.
- Curriculum Support
We recognise that every child learns differently. We offer support in various different home school curriculums (Impaq; Cambri-Learn; PACE, CAPS etc.)
- Sensory Integration Support
We work hand in hand with sensory integrated occupational therapists and speech therapists to best assist and support our children with their sensory needs and regulation in order to improve overall quality of life.
- Social Skill Support and Guidance
Communication, emotional regulation, managing and maintaining healthy interactions for verbal and non speaking children using Makaton, AAC devices, visual supports, social stories and PECS.
- Positive Behaviour Intervention
Developing strategies for unhealthy or harmful behaviours by lowering anxiety and creating a more predictable and positive environment.
PARENT AND SUPPORT TEAM TRAINING
"It takes a village to raise a child" - we know that an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. We offer training, consultation and support services for parents, guardians, facilitators and caregivers.
